A UTV or ATV sprayer gives you spot spraying and weed control mobility without needing a dedicated spray rig. But getting the setup right matters, a poorly matched tank size, an unstable mount, or the wrong boom choice can mean wasted product, patchy coverage, or a unit that shakes loose on rough ground. Here's what to get right before you head out.
Tank size should match how much ground you're covering, not just what fits your vehicle. A 250L unit suits spot spraying, smaller blocks, or occasional weed control where you're not refilling constantly. Step up to 360L or 600L if you're spraying regularly or covering larger areas, the extra capacity means fewer trips back to refill, which adds up over a full day's work.
A sprayer that shifts or rattles under load isn't just annoying, it's a real safety issue on uneven ground. Hitch mounts bolt onto your existing towbar or hitch point, giving a stable, no-modification base for smaller UTVs. Larger vehicles or wider booms need a heavier-duty bracket to handle the extra weight and leverage without flexing. Whichever you choose, check it's rated for your specific vehicle and tank combination before loading it up.
A standard boom (typically 3m to 5m) gives you even, consistent coverage across open, flat ground, ideal for paddocks and larger open areas. A boomless nozzle throws a wide fan-shaped spray without the width or fragility of a rigid boom, better suited to uneven terrain, fence lines, or tighter access where a boom would catch or snag. If you're regularly moving between open paddocks and tighter spots, it's worth having both on hand rather than compromising with one setup for every job.

A manual poly reel is simple, reliable, and fine for occasional use. If you're spraying regularly or covering longer fence lines, a powered reel takes the effort out of winding the hose back in after every pass, worth the extra cost if you're using the sprayer often rather than a few times a season.

Occasional spot spraying? 250L tank, hitch mount, manual reel
Regular use on open ground? 360-600L tank, standard boom, consider a powered reel
Uneven ground or tight access? Boomless nozzle over a rigid boom
Larger UTV or wider boom? Heavy-duty bracket, not a standard hitch mount
New setup? Check mount rating matches your vehicle and tank size before loading up
